25 kV Overhead Line Switches Zee – Zevenaar Area
Rhevolec BV supports railway operators and railway contractors in the modernisation of 25kV overhead line systems. In various European overhead line systems, the first generation of 25kV overhead line switches is reaching the end of its technical service life. These installations are therefore being replaced in phases by a new generation of 25kV catenary switches that meet higher standards of reliability, safety and ease of maintenance.
Overhead line switches form an essential part of the 25 kV AC overhead line system and enable overhead line sections to be safely switched, isolated and kept available for maintenance, faults and extensions.
VolkerRail Netherlands BV has been selected by ProRail as the railway contractor to carry out this replacement work. As part of this project, VolkerRail Netherlands BV is responsible for the practical implementation of the replacement of existing 25kV overhead line switches.
New generation of 25 kV overhead line switches
For this new version, Rhevolec BV is collaborating with its partner PFIFFNER Schaltgeräte AG, formerly known as Rauscher & Stoecklin AG. This Swiss manufacturer has a long history of developing and producing reliable overhead line switches for, amongst other things, 25kV overhead line systems.
The 25kV overhead line switches supplied meet ProRail’s current requirements and have been developed in accordance with the applicable ProRail product specification SPC000345-V001. This ensures that the 25kV overhead line switches meet the specified requirements in terms of design, functionality, safety, quality and reliability within the Dutch 25kV overhead line network.
Logistical project support and just-in-time delivery
Rhevolec BV played a key role in this project in the logistical organisation and coordination of the required components. To support the work of VolkerRail Nederland BV efficiently, Rhevolec BV took care of the complete logistical preparation and just-in-time provision of the materials. VolkerRail Netherlands' containers were fitted out at the right time with complete sets comprising:
- 25 kV overhead line switches
- motor drives
- associated rod sets
- other components required for assembly and commissioning
This integrated approach enabled the work on site to be carried out efficiently and minimised the amount of storage and handling required for the project. In this way, Rhevolec BV contributes to a controlled and reliable implementation process.
